Different theories for pricing good and services:
- Calculate cost and add a profit margin
- value/ utility: how much does the client personally value it
- And the one most drug companies subscribe to is they consider how much more do other alternatives to the drug would cost the person. For example, if a drug is an alternative to a serious and costly operation and hospitalization, it would be ok to pay 50k for the drug than 400k on the other alternative, even if the cost to produce the drug is nothing. Also add into consideration that the research to create new drugs costs hundreds of millions and that investors expect a bigger profit margin because they take on extra risks regarding that the research is likely to fail
He got into trouble mostly because he kept a smug attitude, and willingly played like a villain / troll role in front of the media and court. He didn't fold because he trusted that logically he didn't do anything wrong.
He first got sued by older board members to win their argument. He ended not getting arrested for what they accused him of initially but over other wrong things he admitted to doing in trial.

This point boils down to being oneself and not fearing judgement.
